"the purl"

Seems I have been spending a lot of time knitting as well. Over and over. Just straight knitting. At first I used the really large aluminum ones (brown mixed yarn from first, *or only, knit progress post). I then tried a different yarn, a little smaller aluminum needles and went about it that way for a while. Then same yarn, and smaller plastic needles (borrowed from my mother-in-law and has this really cool feel. Helps prevent the yarn from slipping off so easy). Now I am trying the kit I bought- yarn and the smallest needles I have used yet. Then (da, da, dum!) I knitted along and tried to purl. I have no idea if I am doing it right. So before I get all carried away learning the wrong way- is this sort of right?
This is a huge practice piece, well not sizewise, more of experimentational for me,as I also tried changing colors -according to the directions.
Am I getting any warmer?

What caught my attention were those couple of completely right rows there (you know how you usually have right and wrong side when knitting?) in middle of that all-right. You know how to knit "inverted loops"? (My knitting lingo is non-existent.)

Otherwise it looks completely ok with me. Surprisingly even for a beginner, so be proud of yourself. :)

I do not follow. Which is the "right" side? I will take a pic of each side from now on and then post....

Angela, you choose yourself which is the right and "wrong" side.
I think Outi didn't understand the knitting lingo, because your purl looks excellent to me!

Do you knit the first loop on the needle when you start, or do you just slide it over? It makes the edge different, so it's easier later if you want to stitch two pieces together by the edges.
Send me an email if you want more directions!
