one happy kid
Here it is, the cover to the last Harry Potter book. My son has a copy reserved for him. I think the summer release is awesome- ensuring he's still engrossed in a book after school is out.

Why today?
I opened my mailbox to a two pound envelope from ABC Stitch. And another smaller envelope from Silkweaver. And, somehow, my heart didn't flutter with stash happiness. Merely, my thoughts were too consumed with details like emptying the van of the groceries, and getting dinner started.
Yes, it was a a bad, bad day.
When I am more "myself" tomorrow, I may get to a better place and take some pics.
I won't be home alone tomorrow, DD is sick. Her fever when I got back was about 102, down a degree or so thanks to DH. So I'll have a little camper on the couch.

Firstly, thank you (enabler) Jamie, it's true - some of the best things are at others' blogs!So before this goes off to its new home (my Mother-in-law's); here's a pic of a HD. I nearly forgot to take it!
I have taken a pic of the fabric I dyed too, after I ironed it, and then promptly folded it to tuck away clean and safe. Wasn't that smart? *sigh. Next time, pic before the fold.
And speaking of fabric. I ordered from Silkweaver on the 13th. Payment (paypal) went through the 16th. Still no fabric, so I'd say it's a definite to send what I made. Oh I hope she likes it. The ends aren't finished off like they would be from Silkweaver. Still too chicken (and busy) to mess around with my fear of the sewing machine.
And what is the typical/preferred size of a biscornu? I have made a pattern and need to decide what count to stitch on. This is my first bicornu. Anyone?

And on a completely different topic. I had a 4 foot wide and maybe 3 foot high snowbank directly behind my van in the driveway. So much so my van stuck out and took up more room than usual in the driveway. In one day, the snowbank is no more. But the yard is under some serious water. Canoe anyone?

And this is the teaser. I dyed a piece of linen for the exchange. It took waaay longer than I thought it would. Not so much the dying, I was well prepared with everything I needed. See what I did? I used a clean kitty litter bucket, inside the kitchen sink that was filled part way with soapy water. It made for great fast clean up by dunking in my hands real quick as I needed to. Plus I covered the counter with plastic shopping bags, just in case. That way I could play with the fabric and have a peek at it over/on the bags.
The time consuming part was the ironing it when all was said and done. *ugh. I was ironing in a bit of a rush-I had to get ready for a Drs appointment. No worries I made it on time.

Errm
Well I have changed the background color to the green I was (more or less) looking for. Still not quite what I wanted but I needed a change. It is the first day of spring after all!
Sorry, the lettering doesn't appear that well. I am wrestling with colors, styles, etc. It'll be better(I hope very soon).
*sigh, I want to make what I see in my head. Just lack the skills.
Stay tuned. I'll figure it out.
And I signed up for a MySpace page. Can someone please tell me- why doesn't that blog feature there work for me? *ugh. Computer headache! ;)

Got Stash?
I do!
The mail didn't make here through the storm Saturday (Grr, no excuse! It's Maine!)
SO- today I ventured out to my very crammed mailbox! There were three (four actually, but my prescription doesn't count) puffy envelopes.
My order from Needlework Plus arrived with the Estaz threads I have wanting for a couple years now, and the DMC rayons I ordered. Thank you Jenna for the recommendation! (My first ever order through that company and I have to say the owner's communication is excellent!).JPG)
From 123 Stitch my back ordered emerald cabochon hearts (they are little treasure type things) arrived with the correct sized white Monaco. Oh my word, the fabric is huge!
And.... grab your paper towels! My Hand dyed Fabric Exchange item arrived all the way from Val in England. It's purple! And it gorgeous. I don't know how she managed to marble it as she did. I couldn't have asked for anything better. (yikes, hope mine is up to that level! But I ordered a piece from Silkweaver as back up, so it should help take the pressure off me a smidge.) My picture doesn't do it justice. Makes it more grey then its true color. If you could see it in person! Wow.

What's that? What Fabric Exchange? Well I forgot to mention it! Hee hee. Over at the Linabear forum we are having a hand dyed fabric exchange. I was the organizer, which is very fun btw. We were to dye a piece of fabric 13"x18" or larger of 28ct or higher count fabric. The send out date is the first of April. So- wish me luck!

Thinking green
Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone! Seems we get a good sized storm every holiday this winter. We are not venturing out. A foot or so of snow topped with ice saw to that! 'Nuff said, on to the pattern!

Campbell's
This picture was taken before last night. I stopped when I got a call from Iowa. (see I had stopped midstitch)
At bedtime last night, I had started the lettering and only got as far as the "c". I had finished that strand of thread and decided it was time to call it a night anyways.

there it is.
Hubby's work has decided to trim its workforce and announced there will be board-wide layoffs the end of this month. I am assuming more after that too. He is not in a direct production department, so technically he isn't seen as "production" which means "making money" so he may stay, go, or get tweeked (bumped to doing something else).
He has been with the company for 10 years. Eleven this fall.
This could wind up being a good thing. Or not. Who knows.

new designs
New stuff at Heritage Stitchcraft! Just as I am getting an idea of what I want next. There ya go, more to choose from. At first I thought it was weird to have the Valerie Pfeiffer birds dressed up. That is until I saw the little cook/chef one. That would be cute on a kitchen apron. Or in my kitchen. See where this is going?
And the cats by Margaret Sherry are adorable as always.

stitchie updates
Well I have been working here and there on the Campbell's redwork. I haven't taken any recent pictures yet. Keep thinking I will as soon as it's done! (*laughing)
I also have started knitting a little something for myself using the parrot and black Boa yarns. I am thinking I may be able to come up with a nice striped effect. But I didn't count how many rows I had done, or plan at all with an idea of when I would do a color change. So *shrugs, I guess I will just keep winging it. The desire to knit the other day was so strong I couldn't even stop long enough to form a plan! I also may have started it a bit wider than I should have. But being as flexible as it is I don't think it'll matter in the end. Once I put it on it'll stretch like crazy anyways! Plus it won't match my coat either. That' s the point I guess. Just like the flashy glasses case I bought. It isn't normally my style. I am a plain, neutral type. But I bought this almost tin foil shiny pinkish glasses case with silly handles that make it look like a purse! My logic was that I needed a hard case if I am going to be swapping between glasses throughout the day. And being "standoutish" it may help me keep track of it! (the biggie was that it was only $3.88)

Order number two
arrived today. The Monacos are quite nice. I like the colors. But there was a small error. They had sent all of the fabrics in the 18x30 size, and I had ordered all but the white in that size. So with a quick (very friendly) phone call they confirmed the mistake, apologized, and said the correct size would be sent out with the backordered emerald I had ordered. And that the smaller cut could be kept! Wow! Now that's some great service!

Back that stash truck up!
One order has arrived. A Crazy Quilt kit!(see pic) by Pamela Kellogg. (Thank you Pamela!)
I have never tried crazy quilting - but this one called to me. It seemed like it would be good hanging on the wall in my kitchen. And since it is my favorite color, with my favorite flower, and has elements that go with the kitchen- it's a done deal!

"SBQ where are you?"
Firstly...."Do you use your needle, a seam ripper, or something else when you have to frog stitches? Why do you use the method that you do?"
I have a pair of scissors with a hook like shaped blade on side that I use from time to time on the larger areas. Naturally I remove as little as I can get away with and still be happy with how it looks.
Other than that I use my needle the most to either~ undo where I had laid the securing stitches on the back and pull through the front or to lift the thread enough (the hook scissors are too large on higher counts to be able to use those) to slide my real sharp scissors under and snip away what I need to remove. If there is a section that was fine I try to resecure it on the back. If I can't get it "just right" I redo the entire section.
Hmm, why? Each projects has a different reason I guess.
And.....SBQ was suggested by Danielle and is:

of a design?" Um yup! Or at least is seems that way. Nothing like a huge frogging episode near the end to really make me mad!
