How do you secure your thread when you begin a new one? Specifically, do you or have you ever used a waste knot?
No I have never used a waste knot. Seems, unlike my mother, I can't make that perfect one handed knot at the very, very tip of the thread. SO I wind up frustrated and annoyed.
Plus I can't stand wasting thread trying to learn that way.

Froggin'
I stitched for hours on a "item" to be sent to my partner for the Secret Pal Exchange at EMS. I spent over an hour frogging half of the progress(I suppose in this case it isn't) I had made the day before.
I love the look of stitching over 1 on 28ct. Trying to grab the stitches later on with my needle and scissors to frog them out, is a whole different story.
Plan for tonight:
Stitch like a mad woman to make up for lost time on "the item"
Watch ER (DUH< wrong day!)
Go to bed earlier than I have been lately, 'cause there's turkey to be eating tomorrow!
Oh and pumpkin pie, my all time favorite dessert I think!
btw way Outi, I chickened out and went with white to stitch on for this one. As I am so pressed for time I thought it would be the safest choice- matching and all.

DH's suitcase
Chris E decided to take a nap in DH's suitcase, and I caught it just in time!I was going in to make the bed and ended up taking pictures instead. He tolerated the flash for some time.

Yes I have!The first three I ever made were about the time I had started stitching. They were little kits, the types you find at WalMart.One was a drummer boy I made for my mother- I finished it off as a magnet. She still puts it on her fridge every year. And an angel, I cannot recall off hand who I gave it to or if I kept it for myself. The third was an ornament for Baby's First Christmas. I stitched it while I was pregnant with my son B. It still goes on our tree every year.
Now the first good ornament truly "all made by little old me"... The blackwork on red aida I had just sent to Lana for the Linabear Ornament Exchange.(Notice the name? I can't for the life of me remember designer of the free pattern!) Anyways, this will be the style from now on, more self-made.Though they won't all be blackwork.

Ornament Exchange is now done!
Lana received her ornament from me from the Ornament Exchange through Linabear. I made a card to match, though not at what I had wanted to. Hard to explain... I should have hit the store with ornie in hand and picked accordingly. But I still managed to make it a set.
the details:
Victorian Red Aida, 18ct (through Silkweaver)
DMC Light effects Precious metal thread E168(5283)
The tassle I made using DMC 814, which matches the fabric quite nicely.I used a bit of the same LE in the tassle and loop hanger.
This was my first real ornament, first tassle and first time ever using the blackwork style.
I will definitely be doing more blackwork. It's fun and relaxing. After a while I didn't even need to look at the pattern which was sort of a freeing experience.
I surprised myself by not blabbing too much anyways here, the guessing is half the fun in an exchange. (If you are wondering I did a little here and here. ;) )

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome for AnneR. *clapping*
Yes, I have a thing for pumpkin pie or anything close to it. Well ginger too.(Ginger molasses cookies anyone?) It's just that time I guess. Recipe to tempt you, I haven't tried it yet. But, it looks so simple! Did I mention it's no fat and all that jazz? :)
Seems as though someone with nothing better to do decided to slam the flossmom site. Apparently selling ham and tea pills is just too much for them- takes over the brain I guess.
So here's to hoping when someone emails, that I will see it and not mistake it for spam. Maybe we need a code word then! Sheesh!

Let's see since I have been married for 10 years now.
The prior relationship (many moons ago) was ended by me for: things he did, or rather who he did and the things he didn't do; and what he threatened to do to me.

What were you doing this morning at 8 a.m.?
Asking the kids if they'd had breakfast yet.

Adding softener to the laundry.

Yes and no. Not my favorite, but I can hold my own.

I do not know.

On the spot, probably when the thing (top lip attaches to gums, frenum, I think it is called) was removed. I had never ever had shot, let alone 3, in my mouth. Oh. My. Word!
My wisdom teeth extractions were bad too, more because one became infected. So I guess this one gets it for length of time.
What is out your back door?
Front and side, no back.
Any plans for Friday night?
Not yet. I forsee a stash junkie evening (evil laugh)
Do you like what the ocean does to your hair?
Wind and more wind. No.
Have you ever received one of those big tins of 3 different popcorns?
Yes. Not my thing though. I like it hot and made fresh. (Can you tell me that popcorn made who-knows-when with who-knows-what added is fresh? shudder)

we're back!
DH, the kids and I went here. For a little R&R, courtesy of my MIL. She owns the timeshare and invited us up. We went last year and only could stay one night. So this time the kids took 2 days off from school and DH took a little time off from work as well. So we managed 4 days of fun and relaxation with my MIL, BIL and his girlfriend (which was great as we got to know her as well!)We even threw a little surprise Bday party for her! Lol. She was surprised!
I packed a small blackwork project and a bit of yarn. I am nearly finished A's scarf for Christmas. But, while there, the thought of swapping skeins seemed like too much work!
We came back home Tuesday, I am just getting caught up on things now! (Tuesday night and yesterday I spent quite a while reading everyone's posts and cleaning out my emails. Then off to the grocery store to replenish, since we let things get low knowing about the trip.) Today will be house related thing to take care of -laundry anyone? - and a bit more errand running.

None. Everytime I near the end of the DMC list- they release more! I have most of the cotton, some of the rayon and linen, most of the light effects/metallics, and a few of the variations and variegateds.
The hand dyeds, like the GAST's and such I have only a couple of. Thanks to a RAK from Outi and the Odds'n Ends section of Silkweaver.
Let's see, I have several Kreiniks (all of the glow-in-the-dark, they were a must), and a few Anchors.... I think that's about it.
I keep track of them through an Excel list (spreadsheet program); well most of them. I haven't updated in quite a while. The Anchors haven't been added nor have the other ones I have only a couple of.
The Excel list helps me keep track of what really is mine. Nothing like buying a bunch of this or that for my floss kids, and then mixing myself all up as to whether it's in my stash or not!

voters chuckle
My neighbor has had this very large sign for someone he is backing for governor displayed near the main road. It is within easy view from two of my windows.
It was "removed", not the wood it was attatched to, just the sign very late one night.(It was up before I went to bed and gone in the morning when I was up as the sun was starting to come up.)
Then replaced.
Then a wind storm took it down, or rather ripped and twisted it badly.
Then replaced.
It was up an fine last night.
Now this a.m. it looks like it had been "ripped" entirely from one side.
Lol. It wasn't windy last night and it looks deliberate but crudely done.
I am not suporting this person and every time I see the goings on I laugh a bit.
No I didn't do any of it either...and I think it may have happened more than the times I have listed, I am losing track a bit.

TheToday show has the "acts" on again. You know, the ice skaters, Broadway play scenes; all of the things that will be in the Thanksgiving Parade. Just the sound of the music makes me think of the holidays-which, is coming up too fast! Granted I am a bit more prepared this time- the stores had stocked Christmas and Halloween at the same time. Now the fall stuff will be on clearance, and the Christmas and Thanksgiving stuff will explode in stores. So in a sense my mind has been bombarded with the seasons trinkets for over a month now. A dose of desensitizing ;)
Now for a stitching bitch:
Why has the Just Cross Stitch 10th Anniversary Edition been out for some time now.
And Amazon doesn't have it? *Bah! I have a balance there, a gift certificate that would have almost paid for the whole thing I think. Especially if it qualified for the 'super saving shipping' thing, or whatever it's called.
I have yet to see it in the craft stores or the bookstore.*sigh
If anyone sees it on Amazon, please let me know!

little bits
First,
Happy Birthday to Tracy !
CrossStitcher (UK) arrived yesterday.
And the World of Cross Stitch arrived today. I have been waiting soooo impatiently for the Valerie Pfeiffer bird in this issue. I love chickadees, and this one is just too cute and fluffy! Well I like all of her birds: the sparrows, cardinals, and chickadees most of all.

It started way back when I joined EMS. I had been a freebie collector, more so once the internet came into play. I wasn't comfortable joining with my real name so I thought what would describe me best...... patternnuts! (Though not a very active member at the time.)
Then when they went down and back up -I rejoined and went under a slightly different name (numbers added to the original) because the system wouldn't let me in under the original name.
A little further down the road, I was coerced (right Outi?) into blogging and it was just automatic.
The "palace" part started, simply for lack of anything better at the time, which then went to "place". (The link stayed as it was.)
So I guess in some way, it is a part of me, which at the start I couldn't have fathomed!
The irony is that I thought of the perfect ID for me yesterday while doing dishes. Once my hands were dry I couldn't think of it for the life of me!

The irony is that I thought of the perfect ID for me yesterday while doing dishes. Once my hands were dry I couldn't think of it for the life of me!

Gaming woes for DH.
PS2 - MLB '06: The Show
He made tons of progress in career mode and saved it on his memory card. Played for hours and hours. Making advances and opening up stuff. Then WHAM! Gone.
Does anyone have any idea? Is he missing something when he saves? A step?
