Attaching charms/treasures

Okay I have these I plan to use in a project for Christmas for a family member. I have a few things in mind as far as the pattern and all- it will be:

  • a royal blue type decoration probably with silver and royal blue DMC Light Effect threads
  • fabric is still undecided, lots of options with my Silkweavers (hand dyeds and non) and the classic stand-by of white evenweave. I have an opalescent coming which may work.... I am thinking a light grey will make it all pop. See? Still undecided.
My question to you all-esp those with experience is: what thread do I use to attach these with?
I have heard conflicting advice. Go with the transparent type... Go with a thread that matches the fabric>what if it is a difficult color to match hand dyed or what have you. And lastly, how is it attaching a rather largish type charm as is the teardrop (pkg with 4 inside) - which I have my heart set on. Well, my plan is one on this project, probably in the center.....

Attaching beads and charms. Yes, there are lots of opinions. About one per stitcher, I'd say. LOL My suggestion is that you experiment... try invisible thread for one, thread matching the fabric for another, thread matching the bead/charm, and whatever else you can come up with. Line them all up on a piece of scrap fabbie, and decide which you like best. ;-)

I'd go with floss because it's durability, but invisible would be better in visual sense.
I think, though I don't say I know anything about this matter.

Just my 0,02€. ;)

I usually use sewing thread that matches the fabric colour. This is what I used for Cinderella, and it works just great :)

Always use two plies, so I fix them in cross stitch :)

I would have to agree with the first comment hehe.. every stitcher does it differently. Personally, I use floss that matches the bead when attaching beads, but sometimes this can make the bead become darker or even change the colour depending on the bead. I have always used floss to match the fabric when attaching charms. I think invisible thread would work really well too, but have never tried it. Your best bet is to just try different threads like Laura suggested and see what you like the best :)

I would agree with Selina on this one, when attaching beads I always use use sewing thread the same colour as the background material :) I think you will have to try each method mentioned and see which one you like best.
